9/15/24 - When we are mistreated
What we have in these verses is a clear word about the Lord’s promises to those who are being mistreated. Peter is teaching us if we are going to trace the footsteps of Christ and by the way that is what we have been called to do. We were not saved from the wrath of God so we can do what we want. We were saved so we could follow Christ, trace his steps, live with his values, humility, love and submission. We have talked and wrestled with submission for the last three weeks, with submission to our highest government, with submission to local governments and submission in the home. What we all know is when we are being treated right it is easy to submit. But what if we are not being treated right? It is not easy to submit.
What Peter does today is command us on how to act when we are being mistreated. Why do I say he commands us? Because this is what we are called to. To be like Christ.
