Have you ever felt like you had to choose between being happy and being holy. Like you could not be in the will of God and be happy or you cannot do what you think makes you happy and be in the will of God. Maybe you have felt like this in your personal life, maybe you have felt like this in your family, your marriage, your job, or even your church. What we see in these first verses, what many people call the beatitudes, or to have this attitude, is a clear pathway to happiness and holiness. You see what Jesus teaches in these verses happiness and holiness are not separate but true happiness and true holiness go together. Maybe you could say two sides of the same coin.
